Radiosphere has been an associated partner of the SPELL platform since May 2022, a research alliance based at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) for more efficient management of crisis situations based on semantic data. The aim of the SPELL platform is to optimize all relevant information for better decision-making by control centers and situation centers in crisis situations – for example, in the event of major incidents, pandemics, natural disasters or widespread power outages. The focus of the SPELL platform is the use of artificial intelligence in the rapid provision of crisis-relevant information.

As a media monitoring specialist, Radiosphere will contribute extensive expertise in analyzing and interpreting information from online and social media to the project work. “Our previous experiences from customer mandates for risk monitoring or social media monitoring around large live events have shown that participants in shared postings on social media were often able to provide valuable information for assessing the overall situation. This has helped those responsible and the security agencies to react appropriately and, above all, quickly,” explains Susanne Koehler, Managing Director of Radiosphere, who began her career as a data mining expert at the Fraunhofer IAO Institute for Industrial Engineering.

The SPELL platform is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and, under the leadership of DFKI, brings together partners from research, universities and industry, such as institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Association for Safety Technology and the Deutsche Rote Kreuz.
